Terminology Work

Good Afternoon!

I hope you are all well and enjoyed your break from college (but still managed to do some study!)

This lesson we are going to focus on using the correct terminology for analysis using a couple of extracts from A Streetcar Named Desire and The Kite Runner.

Read through both extracts and identify as many language features as you can.  Go through the frameworks as systematically as you can. Although you don't need it for ELLA 1, you could also identify representations of speech. We are simply looking at terminology for the moment! Use each other, use your notes and me to check understanding of the terminology you need.

Here are some (very basic) notes on Grammar and Lexis etc you might find useful.

Next, using these extracts as starting points, make a note of what themes and ideas about the characters and their relationships are presented in the extracts. You are not analysing the extracts, simply using quotations to jog your memory about the main ideas from the texts and making links to different parts of the play or novel.

Extension:

When you have done that, look at the example questions for ELLA 1. Plan a response to Question 5 (an analytical task on Streetcar). This can be completed for homework. We will look at a couple of exemplar responses to this task next lesson.

NB. Your mock exam will be on ELLA 2 Representations of Speech and not ELLA 1.
